The Studio

Symco Pottery Works

South Minneapolis

My studio has been in south Minneapolis since 2015. I received a Metropolitan Regional Arts Council Grant in 2018 to heat and insulate my garage so that I could use the studio year round. The studio has one kickwheel and one electric wheel along with an electric kiln. The above photo shows a collection of works-in-progress pots, cups, and bowls, most before glazing.

Fired at Tandava

Tandava is the name of the Anagama kiln located in Glencoe, MN. It is fired by a wonderful crew of potters centered around the Metro Area of Minneapolis, MN.

The Studio Namesake: Symco

In 2003, I moved to Symco, Wisconsin to live on my grandfather’s dairy farm. The ancestral home to the Herman clan is where my studio began. I converted one of the outbuildings into a studio—that is the image you see below. The property sits on a small hill overlooking a valley with a river called the Little Wolf River.
